Albicchiere

Use cases: Smart hospitality

Albicchiere is a smart wine dispenser developed by the Italian company Beexlab. It addresses one of the most prevalent issues shared amongst wine connoisseurs. Once a bottle is uncorked, the oxidization process begins, and the wine starts to lose its flavour, even on the same day. While a recorked bottle of wine typically can be consumed for one week max, Albi’s smart wine dispenser can keep wine enjoyable for up to 26 weeks, thanks to its proprietary technology. Additionally, it also makes a freshly opened wine more enjoyable, as users can accurately control the temperature of the wine.

DiCE SMART can control smart plugs and other IoT smart home devices, such as wireless light bulbs. Using the DiCehome app, you can then check your appliances’ consumption levels and automatically schedule to turn off appliances with high power consumption when they are not needed.

Digital Technologies s.r.l.

Use cases: Manufacturing, retail, logistics, asset management

Digital technologies partakes in various tech projects, amongst those, there are several IoT solutions, as the company recognizes the broad potential of IoT solutions: “The drive to remodel reality into a completely digital world is leading us to increase the use of environmental sensors.”.  Their most prominent IoT solutions address intelligent asset management. These combine software with hardware sensors to automatically assess a company’s inventory. In the retail, manufacturing and logistics industry, taking inventory manually, can be a costly, yet necessary undertaking. The company also provides track & trace solutions, i.e. asset tracking, mainly used by logistics companies.

DRB

Use cases: Utility

DRB is a service provider focusing on autonomous drone inspection solutions for power line, renewable energy plants (e.g. solar, wind and hydro farms), industrial plants (e.g. offshore oil platforms) and other industrial or utility-related infrastructures.

They provide hardware as well as platforms to gather and analyze the drone’s data. One of their most innovative solutions is Drone Radio Beacon. This proprietary technology enables drones to autonomously navigate through infrastructure whilst maintaining very high accuracy and reliability. It does not rely on GPS or video processing techniques. Using beacon technology, DRB can set no-fly zones, land them precisely on a ground station and let them fly along predetermined corridors. After a successful flight, DRB’s web platform can rapidly analyze the gathered data and pictures using AI. An inspection report is automatically generated, which indicates potential structural damages.

Emoj

Use cases: Facial recognition, Customer Service

Emoj is a multiplatform system which can analyse human conditions in real-time. It learns from human expressions and uses it to create “emotional and unique experiences”. These are some nice buzzwords, but what does it actually do, you might ask.

  1. It analyzes facial expressions and identifies human states.
  2. It identifies the person’s demographics and characteristics, such as age, gender, interaction, emotion.
  3. Based on these two steps, the platform utilises machine learning and a decision tree to…
  4. …adapt the customer experience based on these real-time reactions. Thus supposedly elevating the customer experience.

Epoche

Use cases: Smart watches, wearables, self-improvement

Epoche has united the best of both worlds: The nostalgic, timeless aesthetics of a traditional Italian watch and the functionality, convenience and intuitive ease of use of a smartwatch. Using its app, you can read messages, receive notifications, manage your calendar and more. The smart watch’s screen is very compact and located behind the traditional clock face. This smaller, energy-efficient screen coupled with a double battery allows for superb battery life: It recharges in about 90 minutes and lasts for 7-10 day on a single charge.

Filo

Use cases: Asset tracking

Filo is a small tracking device that you can connect to anything you don’t want to lose. To locate the device, you can press the button in their own app, which will make the Filo device ring loudly. What sets Filo apart from ordinary key finders is its two-way communication. If you lose your smartphone, but still have your keys with the Filo device attached. You can double press the button on your Filo in order to ring up your phone (even if it is set to silent mode).

HWA

To achieve this, they utilize their own customizable hardware / software platform, which consists of a central electronic board and accessory boards, which can be mounted with various sensors and actuators. It is basically a lego set, where all the parts are guaranteed to be compatible, while still being highly customizable to provide IoT solutions tailored to the needs of the client.

INSENSO

Use cases: Smart hospitality

Insenso recognizes the value of providing luxury hotel guests with a sensory journey, from check-in to check out. Thus, they developed a perfume-applying machine, that is equipped with sensors, that can recognize the size of the fabric, its size, and whether the line should be scented or left neutral. Tailoring a guest’s experience to match their personal taste is a major aspect distinguishing 4-star hotels from luxury hotels. Most IoT solutions for smart hotels address this, by providing guest’s with customizability with regards to smart lighting or smart thermostats, but few of them consider customizing a rooms fragrance. Using Insenso’s fragrance chamber, each guest can choose the type and amount of fragrance they prefer. Hotels may also to further ingrain their brand identity by picking their own spectrum of fragrances.

Is Clean Air Italy

Usecases: Air Quality management, Smart Cities, Environment

Is Clean Air Italy owns the patented APA Technology.  It is a filterless, modular platform which can be used to abate ambient air pollution, thus improving air quality. It uses chemical, physical, mechanical processes and water to abate the most common pollutants, such as dust, gas, stenches, airborne bacteria and viruses.

It breaks down complicated AI models to make them more understandable to the ordinary human user. One prime example of the major benefits of using AI software to analyze IoT data is predictive maintenance. If you’re in manufacturing and one of the machines in your production chain malfunctions, it can stunt the efficiency of your operation by creating unnecessary bottlenecks. Using data gathered by IoT sensors, AI software can analyze the environmental conditions of a machine, such as output efficiency, temperature, water pressure, etc. to predict potential malfunctioning. Thus maintenance can be executed proactively as a measure to prevent bottlenecks in the production chain.
